Randi Aldrich, FSO-MS

March was another busy month for Marine Safety. I continue to work each Wednesday at the Marine Safety Detachment (MSD) in Ft Myers. I also recently completed ICS 300. I also accompanied MST2 Booth to a meeting at a local boat lock to discuss environmental issues. People were there from other agencies and levels of municipal government, but it was apparent that everyone listened when the Coast Guard talked.
Marine Safety participation is slowly increasing in numbers throughout District 7. The Coast Guard is depending on the Auxiliary to step up to the plate with qualified members who are ready to train, especially in the area of pollution. The MSD is minimally staffed and covers a very large AOR. With fully trained personnel in place, the Auxiliary can be the first point of contact to check out possible pollution incidents and report back to the Coast Guard, enabling them to respond if needed, based on our findings.
Anyone who is interested in Marine Safety, please contact me at randi@randialdrich.com or see me at a flotilla meeting.
