John Gaston, FSO-CS

About 60% of my "volunteer time" was devoted to the Coxswain Training program with the balance going to Communication Services and other activities as follows:
· Responded to and sent out five blast emails to the Flotilla. Problems with the Comcast mail system required several phone conferences with their systems administrators. The bottom line is that Comcast does not encourage mass emailings and has tightened their guidelines in this area.
· I have made two recommendations (in writing) that Staff Officers should begin to send their own mass emails to improve the timeliness and accuracy of electronic communications.

· Updated the PE program/class dates for The Banner weekly publication.
· Completed assessment of two "social networking" (SN) methods and concluded that they are not appropriate for our Flotilla at this time. The concept of SN is still in the early stage of development and needs to be carefully evaluated for value, content and security before implementing in the Auxiliary.
· Contacted three people recommended by John Tyson for possible help with the conversion of our Beta Website and all declined for various reasons. I will also be in touch with two ADSOs who have prior experience in the IS/IT arena. The conversion of the beta site is outside of my area of technical expertise and I welcome any help or suggestions from The Bridge or others.
· Assessed the viability of the FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red) handheld imaging device for night patrols. The unit is very useful and user friendly but the current cost seems prohibitive. I will assess the possibility of obtaining another unit through the CG via FMB or DIV.
