For the month of March, the number of total days on patrol/training was ten days. We had two boats out on patrol for five of those days. Thanks go to Di Pierro, Bowers, Shuster, Holsten, Harris and Tyson for standing radio watch. Much thanks to John Tyson for standing watch three of the ten days, one of which was an evening ops training mission. In coming months, we will be working with all watchstanders to confirm continuing availability and qualification to stand radio watch. With the number of watchstanders currently qualified and the new trainees, no one should have to stand watch more than once every two months.
In reviewing the radio log, I noted some differences in the way certain fields were completed by the watchstanders. We will confirm the proper information to provide and develop a template to assist all the watchstaders and trainees.
We are updating all the checklists and templates to conform to the most current requirements, and have them organized and at-the-ready for quick and efficient use during operations. We will also be addressing issues such as items required for an ops report from the patrol boat, items that are not necessary information, and proper use of prowords.
