Dave Shuster, Vice Flotilla Commander

In the next couple of weeks the Bridge will be reviewing our first quarter results for the various activities. This is a good time to assess what worked and what needs adjusting to help us meet our goals for the year. A number of dedicated members are working hard to fulfill our missions in support of the Coast Guard and to provide the programs and activities we offer to the members. We should all take a moment to thank them. One of the four cornerstones of Commandant Papp’s vision for the Coast Guard family is to “respect our shipmates”. One of the best ways to do that is a simple “thank you”.
As I discussed last month, we need more volunteers from our membership. Our primary goal for this year is to increase our membership by fifteen to twenty percent. We cannot do this without your help. Specifically, we need more members to volunteer to become program visitors. It’s a simple call or email to Dan Beauchemin, FSO-PV, letting him know you can donate a couple of hours a month.

Neil Arnal is developing opportunities to speak before community and professional organizations, to get the word out about what the Auxiliary does and solicit new members. Most of us are connected with some organization or group that might be receptive to our message. Please take the effort to introduce them to Neil. Once introduced, Neil will take it from there. We just spoke to a community group where Ginny Russell is a member.
One of the best sources for new members are graduates of our safe boating courses. Friends and acquaintances who take our classes often become our newest members.
We encourage all of you to bring a friend to our next fellowship function. This is a great way to introduce someone to the Auxiliary and have a nice time with your friend.
The Auxiliary mission is an attractive option for teachers, boaters, managers, executives, physicians, chefs, dentists, lawyers, law enforcement officers, military veterans, aviators, people from all walks of life who would like to serve their country. All of us know these people. We go to lunch, talk on the phone and work with them everyday. When you get the chance, mention your involvement in the Auxiliary and give them your 60-second speech. If they are interested, invite them to join you at an Auxiliary function.
When all of our members are active, we are Semper Paratus.
