Larry Urbanek, Flotilla Commander

Well, the first quarter of the year is now behind us and many of our out-of-state members will soon be leaving the sunny climes of Florida. Last year several members were not able to complete all their requirements before year-end to avoid going REYR.

My hope is that our snowbirds get their requirements satisfied in the next four to eight weeks before departure. Even if not all requirements are met, the remaining ones can be easily satisfied upon returning and avoid the year-end crunch.

The minimum we must meet are just as the word states – minimums. Later this year we hope that Member Training will institute refresher or competency maintenance sessions for those who are not active in a given quarter. Our overriding goal is to provide a skill level that exceeds the minimum, ensuring a safer and more proficient membership that will be able to handle assignments from the “gold side”. Going the extra step will ensure we are Semper Paratus.
