Jim McCaffrey, FSO-VE

Vessel Safety Checks for 2011 got under way on Saturday, January 15th at Lovers Key Boat Ramp. It was a sunny day, a bit cool, and not a lot of boaters were out.  But of the several dozen boaters who did launch, six took the time to get a vessel safety check.    So we’re off and running.
Here you see Mike Murphy at Lovers Key performing one of the first VEs of 2011.
Any member of the Auxiliary may become a certified Vessel Examiner.  The process is relatively simple.  I invite all to come out and see what it entails.

The 2011 schedule is simple:  Lovers Key and Wiggins Pass Boat Ramps, the second and last Saturday of each month, 09:00 – 12:00 hrs.  Watch your aux e-mails for specific announcements prior to each VSC day.  We will be scheduling special on-site VSC’s at local marines and yacht clubs too, as well as on special dates, such as National Safe Boating Week.  Stay tuned for further details.   Has your boat had its 2011 VSC ?  How about your neighbor’s ?
