The Dredge Report

By Michael DiPierro January 29, 2011

On our Patrol this past Saturday, and at almost high tide, just as we bounced our way out of Wiggins Pass at Green #1, a vessel approached us at full throttle, looking from a distance like Sea-Tow. Just as we began to take collision avoidance maneuvers, he veered off and powered down, stopping alongside us. Turns out, this was the advance man from the dredging company hired this past week by the Naples City Council to do the long awaited dredging for Wiggins Pass.

He said he had just made a 50-mile trip to scope out the Pass and to get a feel of the available depths for his equipment and approach to the area and pass entrance. He asked for directions into the launch ramp and availability of fuel. He seemed quite anxious to get started and told us the equipment was on its way here from Virginia and was expected in about two weeks time.

We were willing to buy him lunch, dinner and book a hotel room for him. Liberation is coming!!!
