The past two years have been most rewarding for me, mainly due to the support of all members in addition to the countless hours the staff officers have contributed. Some of you could never say no when asked for additional help, and for that I am grateful.
The spirit of volunteerism has provided the extra push that makes our efforts a true force multiplier for the gold side. We were able to take steps to improve in many areas, but the one that stands out for me is my emphasis on making our on-the-water activities safer and more closely aligned with the gold side.
The safety stand-down in February 2010 revealed to me how necessary and important it is for our training to follow the appropriate manuals. Our efforts coincided with the Sabot Program that was starting to make its way into the field. The steps we were taking were noticed at the Division level and prompted other flotillas to re-examine what they were doing and ask us for help.
We still have a long way to go before we become fully effective in scenario-based training and I know that the new bridge will continue to promote these efforts. Recently our purchase of Herman, the man-overboard dummy, has also attracted attention to training for rescue situations.
I know you are in good hands with Dave and John and that you will give them your support in carrying out various activities. I have truly enjoyed being part of the continuum that is Semper Paratus
