DiPierro's Italian Vacation

The point of interest to our Naples-USA audience, however, will not be glorious food, fine local wines, vistas, or friendly people, but the visit to the Lerici Coast Guard Station.

Italian Coast Guard, Lirici Station

When we left our small rented villa on the outskirts of Florence, we drove up the western Ligurian coast through the wonderful seaside towns of Forte di Marmi, Pietrasante, Carrerra  then into Lerici, Cinque Terre, Portofino and finally back to Milan for the trip home. Our one overnight in Lerici gave us a beautiful panoramic view of the bay and the small fishing village where at least 400 pleasure boats are moored.

There we saw the Italian version of a number of sea-borne agencies:  Soccorso Sanitario, roughly translated as “First Aid”; Guardia Costiera, Coast Guard; Polizia, Police; Regia Marina, the Italian Navy.
