Neil Arnal, FSO-Vessel Examinations

June went by quickly at Lovers Key and Wiggins Pass Boat Ramps for Vessel Safety Checks.  We are seeing slower days at the boat ramps but don’t expect that to last. Come July the ramps get busy again.  We will set up VSCs at Lovers Key and Wiggins Pass on July 16th and 30th.  Even without a high volume of boat inspections we still engage the public and spread our message of boating safety.

This is a great time for VEs to look around their neighborhoods, talk with boater friends, and pick up a few vessel safety checks.  Remember that you need five VSCs a year to keep current.  The Vessel Safety Check form 7012 and decals are available at the Flotilla.  Pick some up at the next meeting or contact Jim McCaffrey at 239-247-0455.  Don’t forget that kayaks, canoes, paddle craft and PWCs are eligible for VSCs.  You can use the regular 7012 form or the new Paddle Craft specific 7012A. Both are acceptable.

Join us on a scheduled Saturday morning this month.  You do not have to be a certified Vessel Examiner to help out. Ask Alex Novak and Kenny Haydon, our two newest Vessel Examiners in training.  By Jim McCaffrey.
