We celebrated National Safe Boating Week at Bass Pro Shops, where a smiling Bernie Appelman was giving out stickers to the children as they entered the store. “I Wear A Life Jacket” stickers were a big hit with the children.

We also helped customers in the Life Jacket Department. We answered questions about which life jacket was best for the type of boating they did, such as offshore, coastal cruising, back bay areas or river paddling in a kayak.
The customers really appreciated help picking the right size to give them the proper fit and buoyancy. We explained that bright colored life jackets, such as orange, red or yellow were more likely to be spotted in the event of a rescue.
Bass Pro Shops offered a rod and reel that customers could win by filling out an “official entry form”. At the end of the day a winner was drawn by the store management. The winner was Joshua Pleasant of Cape Coral and the raffle benefited the auxiliary.
