Richard Brant has volunteered to be the flotilla’s liaison with the Lee County Emergency Operations Center.

Urbanek next reported that he has not received any further information regarding the Open Water Festival, scheduled for June 9 thru 11 on Ft Myers Beach; however it appears to be a non-event.  The American team has pulled out of the race because water temperatures are too high..

Vice Flotilla Commanders Report:

VFC Shuster called on Dist. Chief of Staff John Tyson for special remarks.  Tyson reported on his recent visit to the Coast Guard Academy and that there would be a hurricane drill next week. He also reminded those present to respond to the Call Tree.  We need to know where our members are located during ant disaster.  He also mentioned a change to the term Coast Guardsman and that there is a new CD out that covers the changes in the CGAUX Manual.

Shuster next called on FSO Lazzaro for the Ops report.  After completing the Ops Patrol schedule, FSO Lazzaro reported on fuel being stolen from some vessels docked at Wiggin’s Pass, in particular the Sea//Tow vessel.

The recent SAR identified the fact that some VDSs were not as good as others during daylight hours.  Regular flares were the least visible and pointed out that we should be using smoke flares and dye markers during the day.  The regular flares are okay at night.
