In August, Grant Skaggs and Jim Mayer were recertified as coxswain and crew respectively, and the QE exams for Larry Urbanek (coxswain), Phill Smith (coxswain) and John Gaston (new coxswain) were interrupted because of inclement weather. The rain date for Urbanek, Smith, and Gaston is Thursday, September 8.
The mannequin for man overboard exercises is out of the box and in the water. However, before coxswain and crew enroll in training to use the mannequin, instructors are learning how to handle it themselves. The mannequin is 150 pounds of dead weight, and getting him out of the water and into a boat is difficult. Very difficult, if there are rough seas. Training should be finalized in the next month. Other training classes for the fall are under development and will be announced soon.
