Shuster reviewed the recent
speaking opportunities made possible by suggestions from members. He also cited outstanding performance by the
Vessel Examination team last year, which performed more than ten percent of all
Auxiliary vessel examinations in the
state of Florida.
Guest speaker John Tyson covered
the organizational structure of the Coast Guard Auxiliary from the national
level in Washington to the flotilla level.

The meeting opened at 1900 with the pledge of allegiance
followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of fallen members of armed
forces. The minutes of the previous
meeting were approved unanimously.

Flotilla Commander’s Report:
Shuster called attention to the Flotilla Dashboard in the
February Hatchcover, a graphic illustration of our flotilla’s progress in
reaching our goals for recruitment, organizational relationships, and
improvement in mission performance. The
Dashboard will appear every month in Hatchcover.
He reviewed the recent speaking opportunities made possible
by suggestions from members and emphasized the recruiting success resulting
from these efforts.
Shuster cited outstanding performance by our Vessel
Examination team last year, which performed more than 10% of all vessel
examinations in the state of Florida.
Larry Urbanek, Vice Commander for Division Seven, said the
recent division meeting emphasized performance measurement at the flotilla
level.
Cheers party will be February 26, 1600 hours at Barefoot
Beach Club.
Jeff Kerner, Commanding Officer at Station Fort Meyers
Beach, has asked for more help at the Station from Auxiliary members. Shuster is getting more specifics. A sign-up sheet was sent around for members
who want to go to the Station to help out.
Boat shows coming up at Bonita Bay and Fishtale Marina. Volunteers needed.
John Gaston,
Flotilla Vice Commander
Gaston gave an overview and update of staff officer
reports. A one-hour Team Coordination
Training (TCT) workshop will follow the next Operations Meeting on March
7. Ops and Member Training are getting
more attention.
Guest Speaker John
Tyson, District Chief of Staff
Tyson covered the organizational structure of the Coast
Guard Auxiliary all the way from the national level in Washington to the
flotilla level, complete with slides.
He is part of a leadership development roadshow making its
way around the district.
Chief William C. Carl
of Dignity Memorial Services gave a ten-minute talk about camaraderie in the
Coast Guard and the Auxiliary and what his career in the Coast Guard means to
him.
Shuster and Urbanek entertained the meeting by demonstrating
the correct and incorrect uniform for tropical blues and ODU with enthusiastic
audience participation.

closing remarks from Shuster, the meeting was adjourned.
