A number of different initiatives
are under way:

Coxswain training
·
Telecommunications
class and train the TCO trainer
· Developing a
training process for retrieving a man overboard or a person in the water
(MOB/PIW)
Coxswain training for the two new
candidates and one requalifier should be concluded in March. We are hoping a Qualification Exam (QE)
mission can take place in early April.
The Telecommunications class for
three new TCO candidates will conclude in early March. At the same time, two current watchstanders
are becoming more proficient in the TCO train-the-trainer effort.

A task team called the
Person-in-the-Water Recovery Development Team has conducted a number of dry
land, dockside and in-the-water trials.
Recently they were also able to engage Coasties to help develop training.
Efforts so far have been quite successful and at low cost both financially and
physically. The final training process
will conclude in March.
